Dusseldorf Airport Facts
Dusseldorf
Dusseldorf is one of the commercial centres of Germany, catering for over 600,000 residents. The airport is located just a few kilometres from the downtown district of the city, making it extremely easy to access. Dusseldorf Airport is the third busiest air facility in Germany, behind Frankfurt and Munich, serving some 18 million passengers each year.
Dusseldorf Airport is the main air hub for Air Berlin, one of the largest commercial air carriers in Europe. In addition, Lufthansa use Dusseldorf as a secondary hub, making over 300 departures on a daily basis. Only recently, Lufthansa began long-haul flights to the Americas and Asia from Dusseldorf Airport.
The airport consists of two runways, both capable of servicing short and long- haul aircraft, but renovations of the two are in need. There are also three terminals and a cargo terminal at Dusseldorf Airport. Terminals A, B, and C operate a variety of different national and international aircraft.
Aircraft from all over Europe and the Middle East fly into and out of Dusseldorf Airport on a daily basis. There are various national carriers operating routes to Dusseldorf, including Air France, Swiss Air, Turkish Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, and EgyptAir. Most of the international flights are processed at terminals B and C.
Lufthansa flies to a number of destinations around Europe and Germany. The busiest routes are the domestic and low-cost carriers, which account for a high percentage of daily flights. These airlines include TUIfly, Eurowings, Condor Flugdienst, and Air Berlin. Nevertheless, some of the routes are seasonal flights.
